Psychedelics
Whether they are from ancient plants or synthesized in a lab, all psychedelics hit the same receptor, the 5HT2a receptor. It's a serotonin receptor, that's why psychedelics are in the family of rapid acting antidepressants. From a therapeutic perspective, that's just the start. Combined with psychotherapy, they are unspeakably more effective. For the most part, despite millions of people using them, they are not addictive in the usual sense. Used responsively in moderation and safe settings, they don't seem to cause much harm. Below is a brief list of the most common psychedelics.
